Mathematical Analysis Seminar, Academic Year 2024-2025

  • Title: Singular limits arising from biological systems with fast processes and commonly mathematical consideration

  • Abstract: Many natural processes that happen fast in biological systems have been modelled and studied via mathematical tools. These processes are described by singular terms in systems of ordinary/partial differential equations (ODEs/PDEs) and usually relate to a sufficiently small parameter 0 < ε ≪ 1 (or a sufficiently large parameter λ ∼ 1/ε). This talk discusses such phenomena: “fast switching between healthy roots and toxic roots in plant growth dynamics” and “fast diffusion of chemicals secreted by a species that attract or repulse other species”, where the limits as ε ! 0 are respectively called fast reaction limits [2] and fast signal diffusion limits [3]. Mathematical considerations of these types of limits commonly contain rigorous simplifications of complicated systems of ODEs/PDEs to simpler systems in applications, and convergence rates or the accuracy of the simplified systems, which will be introduced. An interesting case of enzyme kinetics in which the Michaelis-Menten kinetics [1] are no longer applicable, as well as some widely applied models in bio-medicine, will be also linked.

Job Description:

  1. Role and Responsibilities
    • Analysis, data processing, support for Actuarial team.
    • Command and drive system data into information management as requested.
    • Perform analysis based on performance metrics, tools and dashboards to identify the issues and highlight areas of improvement.
    • Ad-hoc tasks assigned.
  1. Experience
    • Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, or related field.
    • Minimum Actuary Associate from any Actuarial association or equivalent.
    • Excellent mathematical, analytical and problem solving skills with attention to detail
    • Mathematical and actuarial knowledge, computer and actuarial software skills, analytical
    • Problem solving and a basic business sense of financial, accounting and economics aspects of business.

Vừ A Dính Scholarship for the Academic Year 2024-2025

Eligibility:

  • Undergraduate students with good moral conduct.
  • Students from ethnic minority groups (not of the Kinh ethnicity).
  • Academic performance in the 2023-2024 school year with a GPA of 7.0 or higher.
  • Conduct assessment in the 2023-2024 school year rated "Good" or higher.
  • Priority will be given to students from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Scholarship Value: Each scholarship is valued at 1,500,000 VND per student.

Scholarship Application Documents:

  • A personal achievement summary (the provided template).
  • Academic transcript for the 2023-2024 school year (with official school stamp).
  • A copy of the ID card; a copy of the birth certificate or legal documents proving ethnic minority status issued by a competent authority.
  • Proof of poverty/near-poverty status for 2024 or certification of difficult circumstances in 2024 (if applicable).
