Biography of Klaus Krickeberg:

Prof. Klaus Krickeberg was born in March 1st 1929 at Ludwigslust, Germany. He took his bachelor, master and doctoral degrees at the Humboldt University. He had taken charge of many positions from an assistant to a lecturer at many universities and institutions, such as the Humboldt-University, the Academy of Sciences of the German Democratic Republic (1951-53), Lecturer at the universities of Würzburg and Hamburg, Germany (1954-58), Full Professor and Director of the Institute of Applied Mathematics, University of Heidelberg (1958-71), Dean of the Faculty of Sciences, University of Heidelberg (1966-67), Full Professor at the University of Bielefeld, Germany (1971-74), Full Professor at the University of Paris V (since 1974), member of the Laboratory of Medical Statistics of the National Centre of Scientific Research (CNRS) attached to this University, Professor of Exceptional Class (since 1980). He also was a visiting lecturer at many universities, including University of Illinois, USA (1955-56), University of Wisconsin, USA (1956-57), Aarhus University, Denmark (1959-60), University of Rennes, France (1962), Columbia University, New York (1964-65), Academy of Sciences of the Soviet Union (1966), University of Havana, Cuba (1968, 1971, 1972), University of Buenos Aires (1970), Catholic University of Valparaïso, Chile (1973). In 1998, he retired.

He has contributed a great deal to the building and development of Viet Nam as follows: From 1975, Prof. Krickeberg had cooperated with Prof. Le Van Thiem, Prof. Hoang Tuy, Prof. Ton That Tung in the applications of statistical mathematics in medicine and computer-aided diagnosis. From 1984 to 1987, he was the UNICEF advisor in Hanoi for programs of maternal and child care, malaria, tuberculosis and epidemiology at village health care centers.  In 1994, GTZ, a German organization, invited him to participate in the family planning program in Nghe An and Ha Tinh.  In 2005, Prof. Klaus helped Thai Binh province in supporting Medicine College in the field of public health, which was approved in May 2008.

With such great contributions, VNU-HCM is honored to confer the Honorary doctorate to Prof. Klaus Krickeberg as recognition of his significant contributions during the national development in the past 50 years, especially the research training and applications of statistical science in community health care development in Viet Nam, and promote relations between the peoples of Germany, France and Viet Nam.
