Objectives

The Spring School at the University of Science, VNU-HCM, fosters academic collaboration and professional connections with the Institute of Mathematics of Toulouse and ENS-Paris-Saclay, France. Our project aims to support the long-term development of applied data science in Vietnam, benefiting students, lecturers, and the broader academic community in Vietnam and neighboring countries.

The Spring School will feature introductory courses on statistics and machine learning in the first week, followed by more advanced courses (either theoretical or applied) in the second week. These courses are designed for senior undergraduate students (4th-year) and master's students in mathematics. Motivated 3rd-year students are also welcome to participate, particularly in the first week, along with PhD students, postdoctoral researchers, and professionals in the field of statistics.

This school is planned to be held regularly in the coming years to sustain and develop collaboration between France and Vietnam in statistics, machine learning, and data science. Additionally, we hope that promising Vietnamese students will be encouraged to pursue PhD research under joint supervision with French experts.

• Students majoring in Mathematics (specializing in probability and statistics), Applied Mathematics, and Data Science from the 3rd year onward.

1. Objective

• • Select talented students with a passion for mathematics to represent the university in the 3rd Al-Khorezmi International Mathematical Olympiad (AKHIMO) in 2025 at Urgench State University, Uzbekistan.
  • Encourage students with an interest in mathematics to engage in international collaboration and exchange.

2. About the Competition
   The Al-Khorezmi International Mathematical Olympiad (AKHIMO) is a mathematics competition for undergraduate students. Its mission is to enhance intellectual potential and inspire students to pursue STEM education. AKHIMO aims to identify and nurture students' creative talents and research interests while fostering an international network and intercultural relationships among participants from various countries. Additionally, it celebrates the significant contributions of Muhammad Al-Khorezmi to fundamental sciences. The primary goal of AKHIMO is to motivate students to engage deeply with the exact sciences and broaden their international collaborations, all while exploring the scientific heritage of Central Asia, particularly Uzbekistan. The inaugural AKHIMO took place at Urgench State University from October 26-31, 2018, featuring teams from 58 universities, including 35 institutions from 20 countries. The second Olympiad was held at Karakalpak State University from October 23-29, 2023, with participation from 40 universities across 14 countries. The third AKHIMO is scheduled for May 26-31, 2025, at Urgench State University, where we expect to host 100 teams from approximately 50 countries. Although AKHIMO is primarily an individual competition, there is also a team component. The official language of AKHIMO is English.

    • Each team consists of 3 students. Participants will solve problems in Algebra, Analysis, and Combinatorics.

3. Team Selection Information

• • Registration period: From 9:00 AM, January 6, 2025, to 3:00 PM, January 10, 2025.

  • Interview and selection:
    • Date: Sunday, 9:30 AM, January 12, 2025.
    • Location: Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science Office (Room F09, 227 Nguyễn Văn Cừ, District 5, HCMC).
  • Selection: 3 students will be chosen for the university's AKHIMO 2025 training team.

4. Eligibility

• • Students must have previously been members of the university's National Mathematics Olympiad team (2022, 2023, or 2024) and achieved at least a third prize.
  • Students who competed in both Algebra and Analysis in previous National Mathematics Olympiads are strongly encouraged to apply.
