  2. Date & Time: 30, May, 2024, 09.30 a.m -11.00 a.m.
Venue: Room F207, Campus 1- University of Science(227 Nguyen Van Cu St., District 5, Ho Chi Minh City).

  3. Title: Hardy-Rellich type inequalities: A new approach and symmetrization principle.

  4. Abstract: We present a new way to use the notion of Bessel pair to establish the optimal Hardy-Rellich type inequalities. We also talk about necessary and sufficient conditions on the weights for the Hardy-Rellich
inequalities to hold. Symmetry properties of the Rellich type and Hardy- Rellich type inequalities will also be discussed. The talk is based on joint work with Anh Do, Guozhen Lu, and Lu Zhang.

  5. Organizer: KIM HA, LY (Vietnam National University – Ho Chi Minh City, University of Science)

After the seminar, Professor Nguyen will also introduce the graduate program and scholarships at School of Science and the Environment, Memorial University of Newfoundland, Canada.

The Science Prize for Women 2024

The United States Government, in partnership with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and UL Research Institutes, aims to strengthen ASEAN science and technology capacity and gender equality through an annual UL Research Institutes-ASEAN-U.S. Science Prize for Women (“Prize”). The 2024 Prize will provide promising, ASEAN-national, Mid-career and Senior female scientists with recognition awards from ASEAN and the United States government and UL Research Institutes for their academic and professional achievements.

The 2024 Prize will emphasize the role of female scientists who have used their work to improve the society in sustainable ways and have acted as role models for other women learning, working in, and pursuing careers in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). This year, the Prize focuses on the theme of Climate Resilience and Adaptation .

Along with recognition for their achievements, the winners are eligible to receive a cash award of $12,500 each for both the Senior Scientist and the Mid-career Scientist categories. Additionally, the runner-up finalists in each category will receive an honorable mention and $5,000.

  • Title: Rigorous derivation of Michaelis-Menten kinetics in the presence of diffusion
  • Room: F207, Nguyen Van Cu Campus.
  • Abstract: Reactions with enzymes are critical in biochemistry, where the enzymes act as catalysis in the process. One of the most used mechanisms for modeling enzyme catalyzed reactions is the Michaelis-Menten (MM) kinetic. In the ODE level, i.e. concentrations are only on time-dependent, this kinetic can be rigorously derived from mass action law using quasi-steady-state approximation. This issue in the PDE setting, for instance when molecular diffusion is taken into account, is considerably more challenging and only formal derivations have been established. In this paper, we prove this derivation rigorously and obtain MM kinetic in the presence of spatial diffusion. In particular, we show that, in general, the reduced problem is a cross diffusion-reaction system. Our proof is based on improved duality method, heat regularization and a suitable modified energy function. To the best of our knowledge, this work provides the first rigorous derivation of MM kinetic from mass action kinetic in the PDE setting.
